Safeguarding

At Headley Park Primary School we believe safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility.  We are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for children, staff and visitors and promoting a climate where children and adults have the knowledge and confidence to share and challenge any concerns which they may have about their own safety or the well-being of others. 

We aim to safeguard and promote the welfare of children by protecting them from maltreatment; preventing impairment of children’s health or development; ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

We have staff members who are specifically trained and nominated as the Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) and Deputies within school:

We are all expected to share any concerns we have about staff conduct around children with the Headteacher. As in all schools, if there are concerns about the conduct of any members of staff then these should be shared with the Headteacher or Chair of Governors.

We follow the Bristol Child Protection Procedures and the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board local guidance and have systems in place to share concerns regarding children’s welfare, child sexual exploitation, PREVENT/radicalisation and female genital mutilation with our DSLs, with parents and with relevant external agencies. Part of our legal duty to safeguard our children, may also include us needing to consult specifically with and take advice from, the Police or Children's Social Care, should the need arise.

If you have concerns about a child please come and speak to us.

Alternatively, If you’re concerned about the well-being of a child contact the First Response Team on 0117 903 6444.

When the offices are closed call the Emergency Duty Team on 01454 615 165.

If the child is at immediate risk call the Police on 999.

Operation Encompass Information​​​​​​​

Operation Encompass is a police and education early information safeguarding partnership enabling schools to offer immediate support to children experiencing domestic abuse.

Operation Encompass ensures that there is a telephone call or notification (a secure email) to the school’s trained Designated Safeguarding Lead (Mrs Allan) prior to the start of the next school day after an incident of police attended domestic abuse where there are children related to either of the adult parties involved. 

Information is shared with the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead prior to the start of the next school day after officers have attended a domestic abuse incident. This sharing of information enables appropriate support to be given, dependent upon the needs and wishes of the child.
